Antonios Nikopolidis[]
Antonios Nikopolidis (born 14 October 1971 in Arta) is a Greek international goalkeeper. He played a central role in the Euro 2004 fiasco and looks a tiny bit like George Clooney.
Nikopolidis has the great honour of being regarded as one of the greatest Greek 'keepers of all time. He was an important part of Greece's despicable Euro 2004 triumph, helping his side successfully ruin the competition by dealing with an average of 150 backpasses per game and yelling 'fucking launch it' every time a teammate had possession.
Nobody can remember whether Nikopolidis, and indeed Greece, were present at Euro 2008 but it is widely agreed that Greece should be forced to demonstrate remorse for their actions at Euro 2004 before they are allowed to participate in a major tournament again.
At domestic level, Nikopolidis is known for being a huge traitor after leaving Panathinaikos for bitter rivals Olympiacos. He is guaranteed a mixed reception whenever he returns to Athens' Olympic Stadium.
Clooney[]
During Euro 2004 the European media pounced on Nikopolidis's resemblance to unreasonably attractive Hollywood star George Clooney. There was something to it, but it was mostly just that he had grey hair.
