Transfer Deadline Day is an annual event which combines the great football traditions of Sky Sports hyping something up far more it deserves and the football team you support doing something ill-advised while Jim White of Sky Sports News fame looks like he's simultaneously going to shoot his dirty water over one of the more sexy SSN presenters (usually Natalie Sawyers but he secretly wishes it was Jeff Stelling) and explode due to seriously high blood pressure.
The final 24 hours before the transfer window shuts is a hectic period during which managers of clubs like West Ham panic and buy a couple of no-hopers from Europe that they don't really need in time for their annual battle against relegation.
The current world-record for moves on Transfer Deadline Day is held by Benjani Mwaruwari, who spent the final day of August moving from Manchester City to Blackburn Rovers to QPR to Middlesboro to Newcastle to Tottenham Hostpur to MK Dons on a twleve minute loan back to Tottenham to Gansu Tianma to Deportivo Wanka to LA Galaxy and finally to West Bromwich Albion. On signing for Albion, Benjani was quoted as saying "It has always been my dream to play for West Brom...or is it Stoke? Well whatever, where's my signing on fee?" He has since handed in a transfer request, presumably.
