John GregoryEdit

John Charles Gregory (born 11 May 1954 in Scunthorpe) was a forgettable shiny-haired manager who is best known for doing a fairly good job at Aston Villa. He looked like he should run a supermarket.

Playing career

It was a functional old career for Gregory. Strangely though he made six appearances for England, although nobody can remember seeing any of them.

Managerial careerEdit

Gregory was one of the hundreds of managers to use Wycombe Wanderers as a springboard, allowing him to join mediocre Midlands men Aston Villa.

The sight of Gregory's gel-laden barnet was a Match of the Day staple towards the end of the 1990s as he led the Villains to the UEFA Cup in 1998 and an FA Cup final in 2000.

Like Villa in general, Gregory inspired an overwhelming feeling of apathy in the viewing public and his emotional exit in 2002 went largely unnoticed.

The next port of call for Gregory was Derby County where he would enjoy the greatest success of his career - suing the Rams for unfair dismissal and netting a cool £1m.

The windfall allowed Gregory to take a mammoth Sabbatical, popping up occasionally to do some punditry or just to show off how much his head looks like a coat of arms.

In 2006, Gregory took on his final job in football at managerial graveyard Queens Park Rangers. Needless to say, he failed.
