Queens Park Rangers are the only professional football club in West London, given that Brentford are more Middlesex and Fulham and Chelsea are both in SW postcodes. Formed in 1882 Rangers, or the Superhoops as they're known appeared on everyone's RADAR in the late 60s as Rodney Marsh and co achieved a unique league cup and 3rd division double in 1967 defeating then giants West Bromwich Albion at Wembley in the final, famously coming behind from a 2-0 deficit at half time (both Albion goals scored by former Rangers player Clive Clarke). This landmark achievement has formed the archetypal past glory off which QPR fans like to live, although their almost title (robbed by Wolverhampton Wanderers lying down for Liverpool in the last game of the season) in 1976 and FA Cup Final appearance in 1982 (taking Spurs to a replay after beating West Brom again in the semis) come close.

Not a lot of people remember that QPR were one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992. Of course they were soon aware of the shame of this as they could see what was to come, so following the departure of then manager Gerry Francis , Ray Wilkins took over and bravely sold their star striker Les Ferdinand to Newcastle United , wasted the transfer money on crocks and no hopers such as Mark Hately and Ned Zelic and helped QPR to a swift extis from the despicable money-grabbing football-killing institution known as the Premiership in 1996.

Rangers have spent the past 15 years enjoying life as a proper football club for real fans in the football league, filling the required quota of embarassing cup defeats to smaller clubs such as Vauxhall Motors , Leyton Orient , Yeovil Town and Port Facking Vale , and sticking two fingers up at Rupert Murdoch by barely bothering to turn up for televised Sky games. This continued even when "breath of fresh air" manager Ian Holloway managed to get the club promoted and instill a feel-good factor in between cup and tv games.

However it appears that Rangers have finally sold out. Under current manager Colin "The Miracle" Wanker (who goes by his other name of Neil Warnock in polite company) QPR are taking the Football League Championship by storm. Mercurial Morroccan Adel Taarabt (or if you're Steve Claridge , luxury lazy Abdul Tarabat) pretty much runs the show from start to finish and the Rs are making the most of watching him before he inevitably fucks off to Arsenal in the summer. And so it's very much looking like the 2011/12 season will see QPR becoming just like all the other over-hyped self-important clubs in the Premier League for at least one season. Hopefully miserable pundits Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson will say enough idiotic things on Match of the Day to make QPR realise they never wanted to be in the stupid Premiership in the first place.
